The Roman Catholic parish church Micheldorf - in the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan , Carinthia - is consecrated to Saint Veit . The first documentary mention of a church in Micheldorf comes from 783/785. A church consecration took place between 1131 and 1167. The original parish seat was at the own church on Lorenzenberg , founded by St. Hemma in 1043 .

Building history

The Romanesque building in the walls of the nave was changed in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Gothic west tower, crowned with a pointed gable helmet, is marked 1447. The vestibule on the first floor of the tower has a groin vault .

The barrel vault in the nave has stitch caps and ceiling paintings in stucco medallions. The ceiling frescoes depicting the Madonna , Archangel Michael and King David were created in 1869 by Primus Haberl. Remnants of frescoes from the 14th century have been preserved on the west wall of the nave. The choir with pilasters and semicircles dates from the 19th century. A late Gothic pointed arch portal leads from the north wall of the nave into the sacristy .

Facility

The baroque high altar from 1643 consists of a small aedicule above a high base, side consoles and sacrificial passage portals as well as a blown segmented gable with a round arch niche as an attachment. The altar panel from the middle of the 17th century shows the martyrdom of St. Vitus. The figures of Saint Modestus and Martin stand on the consoles . The statues of Saints George and Florian from around 1780 stand above the sacrificial passages . The top niche contains a statuette of St. Vitus from the second quarter of the 15th century.

The left side altar from 1655 consists of an aedicule above a base and a small cartilage cartouche with two small figures as an attachment. On the altar panel from the middle of the 17th century, St. Sebastian is depicted between St. Florian and Rochus . The statues in the top symbolize the Christian virtues of faith and love.

The pulpit , created by Johann Georg Hittinger in 1787 , was framed by Johannes Strobl . The relief on the pulpit represents the sower with the devil .

On the north wall of the choir is a large Gothic Madonna figure from the mid-14th century.
