The felty tobacco ( Nicotiana tomentosa ) is a species of the tobacco genus ( Nicotiana ).
features
The felt tobacco is a shrub or small tree that reaches heights of (0.6) 2 to 7 meters, making it one of the largest Nicotiana species. The plant has glandular hairs (hence the name tomentosa ). The simple leaves are sloping, oval, elliptical or linear.
The zygomorphic flowers are 2.5 to 3.5 centimeters in diameter. The overgrown petals are white, pink or red. The stamens and pistils protrude far from the corolla tube.
The flowering period extends from July to August.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The felt tobacco occurs in Bolivia and Peru on roadsides, bushes and drifts.

Felt tobacco is rarely used, especially in the south, as an ornamental plant in groups, solitary or in variegated forms. The species has been in culture since the end of the 19th century.
