The First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site is a historic memorial for the first administrative seat of the young US state Missouri from 1821 to 1826. The 0.27 acre state park is located in St. Charles in St. Charles County of the US state Missouri . The Katy Trail State Park leads directly to the property over and separates it from the banks of flowing past in sight Missouri River .

Before Missouri became an official state, territorial administrative affairs were handled in different locations in St. Louis . When the state of Missouri was foreseeable in 1821 , a permanent seat of government was to be created and Jefferson City was to be created as the future capital on a previously undeveloped site on the Missouri River . The planning and construction of a government building was tackled and another place had to be found for government business for the transition period until completion. Nine cities applied for temporary residence and St. Charles won the bid. On November 25, 1820, Governor Alexander McNair proclaimed St. Charles the first capital of Missouri. The first meeting took place on June 4, 1821 in the new temporary capitol. The boardroom was also located on the first floor of the brick building, as was the governor's office and rooms for the senate. The brothers Charles and Ruluff Peck had set up a general store on the first floor . Up to October 1, 1826, a total of 4 governors handled state affairs in St. Charles, after which the now completed new and permanent seat of government in the new capital Jefferson City could be moved into.

In 1960 the state acquired the slowly decaying property and began a 10 year restoration . Eleven rooms in the building complex have been restored to their original state and another nine rooms have been furnished with furniture and furnishings from the period 1821 to 1826. The Peck brothers' general store was also set up in a manner that was common in the early 1800s.
