The Fischbach is an approximately 6.4 km long, northern and orographically left tributary of the Sauer (Saarbach) in the southern Palatinate . It flows in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Südwestpfalz .

course

The Fischbach rises in the south of the Palatinate Forest and in the southwest of the German part of the Wasgau . Its source is in the north of the municipality of Fischbach bei Dahn on the northwest slope of the Großer Mückenkopf ( 484.9  m above sea  level ) at an altitude of about 325  m .

Initially the Fischbach flows about 200 m to the north-northwest and steers in the direction of the Braunsberg ( 463.4  m ). Between the Großer Mückenkopf and the Braunsberg, it picks up a trickle to the right from the fish fountain (approx. 310  m ) near the stream  . There it bends almost at right angles approximately to the southwest and then runs for about 500 m flow path southwest along the southern foot of the Braunsberg. The stream is accompanied by an old elevated road. Then it is fed on its right by a mountain stream, turns to the south-south-west and continues to pass the Großer Mückenkopf in the west. On the south-western slope of the mountain, another small mountain stream flows towards it on its left.

Then the Fischbach reaches the approximately 21 hectare nature reserve Wolfsägertal . Then he squeezes between the Mückenberg ( 415.6  m ) in the east and the Kleinebet ( 362.5  m ) and the Großebet ( 387.4  m ) in the west. On his way between these mountains he is strengthened by other small mountain streams.

The Fischbach flows through a pond near the Nollenkopf ( 382  m ). Then it runs eastwards first past the Hirschfelsen and then past the Großer Helmersberg ( 368.5  m ) and its southeast spur, the Kleine Helmersberg (approx.  315  m ). At the Petersfelsen it leaves the nature reserve, flows past the Großer Samsberg ( 344.3  m ) and reaches the center of Fischbach bei Dahn . There it flows parallel to Dahner Straße and then crosses under Bitscher Straße . Shortly thereafter, an artificially created arm splits off on the right, which flows southeast of the Saarbach , known as the upper reaches of the Sauer .

After flowing through the village of Fischbach near Dahn , the Fischbach also flows into the Sauer-Oberlauf Saarbach coming from the west at an altitude of 218  m .
