Fyodor Filippowitsch Konjuchow
Fyodor Filippowitsch Konjuchow ( Russian Фёдор Филиппович Конюхов , born December 12, 1951 in Chkalovo , Zaporizhia Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Russian adventurer, traveler, writer, painter and priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate . He is the first Russian to have been to all Seven Summits as well as to the North Pole and the South Pole (so-called Explorers Grand Slam ).
Konjuchow, who is descended from the north Russian Pomors on his father's side, graduated from the Odessa University of Seafaring and as a young man took part in the Vietnam War on the side of the Viet Cong . At an advanced age he graduated from the Saint Petersburg Spiritual Academy .
One of his achievements as an extreme athlete is the independent crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a rowboat in a world record time of 46 days and 4 hours, one of his seventeen Atlantic crossings. He achieved an analogue crossing of the Pacific Ocean in a world record time of 159 days and 15 hours in 2014. He was the first Russian to do a non-stop circumnavigation of the world on a yacht and was the winner of the Antarctica Cup Race Track. In July 2016 he set the record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of the world in a balloon. It took him 11 days, two less than Steve Fossett in 2002. Konjuchow made a total of 5 circumnavigations of the world.
Konjukhov is a member of the Russian Geographical Society , holder of the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1988), honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts , member of the Russian Writers' Union. Konjuchow is the author of nine published works and more than 3000 paintings and drawings.
