Flúðir [ ˈfluːðɪr ] is a place in the south of Iceland .

It is the administrative seat of the municipality of Hrunamannahreppur and has 432 inhabitants. Fluðir is the Icelandic word for rapids that can be found in the Litla-Laxá. This is a right tributary of the Stóra-Laxá, which flows into the Hvítá from the left . Flúðir is located on Skeiða- og Hrunamannavegur S30 and is 103 kilometers by road from the capital Reykjavík . Reykholt , Skálholt and Laugarás are within a 10 km radius . The geyser is 25 km away. After another 7 km you reach Gullfoss . The main source of income in the place are the greenhouses that are heated with geothermal energy.

There is also the largest mushroom cultivation in the country. The old bath ( Gamla Laugin ) is operated with thermal water and is called Secret Lagoon. During the Second World War , the holdings of the National Library and the National Museum in Reykjavík were kept in Flúðir. In 1899 the geologist Helgi Pjeturss (Pétursson) discovered remnants of moraines in Hellisholt, which have been used in research on the Ice Age periods.
