The Flaminia was a ferry of the Italian shipping company Tirrenia - Compagnia italiana di navigazione put into service in 1981 . The 1988 extended by nearly 12 meters Ferry remained until June 2011 and was in active service in 2013 to cancel the Indian Alang sold.
history
The Flaminia was commissioned on December 24, 1975 and laid down on September 12, 1979 under the hull number 4352 in the Italcantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia . After delivery to Tirrenia on April 24, 1981, it was put into service on April 30 on the route from Naples via Palermo and Genoa to Porto Torres . The ferry belonged to a series of six ships known as the Strade Romane class.
In 1988 the Flaminia was extended by almost 12 meters, which significantly increased its passenger and cargo capacity. After more than twenty years on the same route, the ship switched to service between Bari and Durrës in November 2004 , before operations on this line were discontinued in January 2011 and the ferry launched .
Between April and June 2011, Flaminia transported refugees who had arrived in Lampedusa to mainland Italy under the charter of the Italian government . After the last crossing for this purpose, the ship was laid up in Crotone on June 30, 2011 .
In July 2012, the Flaminia became the property of Compagnia Italiana Di Navigaz, and in September 2012 the ship was renamed New York . In May 2013, the ferry was demolished in Alang, India, where it arrived on June 26 and was pulled onto the beach two days later.
