Flavio Ambrosetti (born October 8, 1919 in Lugano ; † August 21, 2012 in the canton of Ticino ) was a Swiss jazz musician (mainly alto saxophone ) and machine manufacturer .

Live and act

Ambrosettis first learned piano and then took vibraphone lessons. Impressed by Coleman Hawkins , he switched to the saxophone. He initially worked in his parents' machine factory before taking over. In addition, as an amateur musician, he was one of the bebop pioneers in Europe. In 1949 he played in Hazy Osterwald's band at the legendary Paris Jazz Festival, where he met his role model Charlie Parker . In the years that followed, there were repeated recordings, for example with Elsie Bianchi , and (also international) appearances, for example in 1967 with his own group at the Monterey Jazz Festival . With his son Franco Ambrosetti , from his first marriage, he played early in Milan (around 1963 with Kenny Clarke ). In 1972 father and son founded The Band with George Gruntz and Daniel Humair , which was the nucleus of the later The George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band .

Ambrosetti has also made a name for himself as the organizer of the Lugano jazz festival, Estival Jazz . He died in Ticino in August 2012 at the age of 92.
