Flavobacterium succinicans is a type of bacteria .

features

The species Flavobacterium succinicans is Gram-negative . The cells are rod-shaped, the length is between 0.5 µm in width and 4 - 6 µm in length. Longer cells of up to 40 µm can also occur. The species is aerobic as well as facultatively anaerobic . In anaerobic growth, the bacteria are not pigmented. When growing with oxygen, yellow-orange carotenoids are produced. Fermentation takes place under anaerobic conditions ; the end products are acetate , formic acid and succinate . The species name F. succinicans refers to the latter . Spheroplasts appear in older cultures . Catalase is either not produced at all or only very weakly. The optimal growth temperature is 25 ° C. The bacterium does not have any flagella , but it can move in a sliding manner ("gliding motility"). This type of locomotion can be observed in many species of the genus Flavobacterium .

The GC content in the DNA is 34 - 36.7%.

Systematics

Flavobacterium succinicans belongs to the family of the Flavobacteriaceae , which in turn belongs to the order Flavobacteriales .
