Flesh for Fantasy is a 1983 song by British rock musician Billy Idol that he wrote with guitarist Steve Stevens . It first appeared in November 1983 on Idol's album Rebel Yell and was released as the third single on September 13, 1984 .

background

Idol and his guitarist Steve Stevens had worked on a song idea, the title of which was inspired by the title Idol after the 1943 film Flesh and Fantasy (German title: The second face ) with Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson . At the time it was still a quick rock and roll song. Idol was not convinced of the value of their idea, it lacked a solid basis to complete a full-fledged song. Keith Forsey, who worked with Idol again as a producer , saw potential, however.

The musicians tried a different, slower, syncopated groove , which did not yet fit, and stopped working on the song because they were working on several ideas at the same time. Flesh for Fantasy was later completed at Electric Lady Studios , keeping the punk chorus, but singing the verses in a soulful way.
