Do not You (Forget About Me) (Engl. For " Do not forget me ") is a song by Scottish rock band Simple Minds in 1985, which by Keith Forsey was written and Steve ship. The song is part of the soundtrack for the film The Breakfast Club .
History of origin
Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff, a guitarist in Nina Hagen's band, composed Don't You (Forget About Me) for the soundtrack to the film The Breakfast Club by John Hughes . First the song The Fixx , Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol was offered, but they declined to record. After the success of Sparkle in the Rain , Forsey then offered the song to Simple Minds who, after initial hesitation, recorded it in the studio. Like the entire soundtrack, the song was produced by Forsey. It was released on both the film's soundtrack and the band's single. As the b-side for the single, the Simple Minds chose their own composition A Brass Band in African Chimes , produced by Steve Lillywhite . Don't You (Forget About Me) did not appear on any of the Simple Minds studio albums.
Billy Idol recorded the song in its own version in 2001, which appeared on his greatest hits compilation.
Music video
The music video was directed by Daniel Kleinman . At the beginning of the video clip , Jim Kerr can be seen in a dark room with a chandelier . Then it becomes light in the room. You can see a rocking horse and a Sony TV that shows parts of the film The Breakfast Club .
Publication and chart placements
Do not You (Forget About Me) was released in the US in February 1985 - in other countries carried out the publication later - and got there in Canada and the Netherlands at number one on the charts .
The single was in the German charts from May 13, 1985 to October 20, 1985 for a total of 23 weeks, with the best ranking at number four for one week.
