Michael 'Mick' MacNeil (born July 20, 1958 on the Isle of Barra , Scotland ) is a Scottish keyboardist and founding member of the rock band Simple Minds . He left the group in 1989 for health reasons.

biography

In 1978 Mick MacNeil joined Simple Minds , which were part of the punk band Johnny And The Self Abusers . had emerged. After a few changes in the line-up, he formed the formation together with Jim Kerr , Charlie Burchill , Brian McGee and Derek Forbes at the end of 1978, which then also recorded records.

In 1979, the Simple Minds debut album, Life In A Day, followed . In 1983 he created the cover design for Billy Idol's album Rebell Yell .

In the 1990s he played different instruments with various musicians on their albums, for example he played the accordion with System Seven on System 7 (1991) and 777 (1992), with Rod Stewart on Vagabond Heart (1991) and Martin Stephenson on Beyond The Leap , Beyond The Law (1997), Keyboards with Robin Zander on Robin Zander (1993), with Then Jericho on Orgasmaphobia (1998) and sang with Kary on Light (2004).

In early 2000 Mick MacNeil released a solo double album called People, Places, Things .

In the band of ex-Simple-Minds bassist Derek Forbes, the Fourgoodmen , MacNeil is occasionally a guest musician and plays keyboards and Squeezebox on their Heart Of Winter: 2006 Tour Sampler (2006).
