Sons and Fascination is the fourth studio album by the Scottish rock band Simple Minds . The album was released at the same time as the album Sister Feelings Call .

history

With the split from Zoom Records, the band also split from John Leckie , the producer of the first three albums, and signed Steve Hillage . Hillage, along with sound engineers Hugh Jones and Alan Jakoby, made his mark on production at Farmland Studios (by Rupert Hine ) and Regent's Park Studios. The mastering took place at Townhouse Studios and Tape One Studios in London. The production sounds uniform, effects have been used more sparingly and precision has been placed in the foreground in order to implement the band's ideas in the sound. The entire production pointed in the direction the band wanted: audible but experimental music that was cleanly produced.

In this concept album, the band processes an extensive tour through the United States with concerts in seventy cities. During the recordings, more songs were created than can be pressed onto a vinyl long-playing record. The band didn't want to do without the recordings and Virgin didn't want to release a double album.

publication

Sons and Fascination therefore appeared simultaneously with Sister Feelings Call in September 1981 on Virgin Records. In a first edition of 10,000 copies, both albums were packaged separately and sold wrapped in foil. Virgin decided for further editions to market both albums separately and to sell Sister Feelings Call as a mini album at a reduced price.

When it was re-released in CD format in 1985, five tracks from the album Sister Feelings Call were integrated into the album Sons and Fascination . It was only with the release of a digitally remastered version in 2003 that all seven tracks from Sister Feelings Call were brought together on the album. In 2012 the album was re-released in the X5 box set from Virgin Records with 5 bonus tracks.

Love Song and Sweat in Bullet were released as singles.
