Derek Forbes (born June 22, 1956 in Glasgow , Scotland ) is a Scottish bass player and a founding member of the rock band Simple Minds . He was a member of the band until 1985 and then played in various bands, at times again for the Simple Minds.

biography

Derek Forbes started his career in the band Subhumans and in 1978 came across Jim Kerr , Charlie Burchill , Michael MacNeil , Brian McGee and Duncan Barnwell, the Simple Minds, and actually wanted to play lead guitar again , but stayed as his guitar was stolen Bass player in the group.
After Duncan Barnwell left the band at the end of 1978, the formation formed that recorded the first Simple Minds records from 1979.
After arguments in the band, Forbes left the band in 1985 before the Live Aid concert and the Once Upon A Time tour and went to the synth-pop band Propaganda , where he met Brian McGee, who left the Simple Minds in 1981 would have.
In 1995/98 he briefly returned to Simple Minds for the album Neapolis and the Neapolis tour .
Most recently, Derek Forbes founded the band Fourgoodmen together with Ian Donaldson, which has played together in changing formations to this day (2009). Since the end of 2011 he appeared, together with Brian McGee and his brother Owen Paul , as ex Simple Minds . The band is completed by guitarist Anthony William and keyboardist Andy Gall . The repertoire extends over the early years of the Simple Minds (until 1985), as well as a few propaganda songs. At the end of September 2012 Forbes joined the Scottish band Big Country as bass player and left again in July 2015.
