Flinsberg (Mainhardt Forest)

The Flinsberg is 535  m above sea level. NHN high wooded elevation in the Mainhardt Forest , natural area Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , near Oberrot , district of Schwäbisch Hall , Baden-Württemberg .

The Flinsberg consists of a north-west and a south-east summit , which are connected by a flat saddle . On the south-east knoll lie blocks of flint weighing tons . On the north-west crest, on the other hand, there are only small flint fragments, very fine-grained sandstones predominate here, which are to be placed in the Oberkeuper due to their fossil content ( mussels and fish remains ) .

The geological difference between the two peaks can be explained by a geological disturbance , the jump height of the fault here is 30 meters without being recognizable in the terrain.

The flints of the Flinsberg are petrographically completely identical to those of the area adjacent to the north, but where they occur in the area of the marl marl . This makes it probable that the Flinsberg flints came from the marl, especially since there are no such flints in the nearby Flinsberg sandstone .

The flints come in different colors (white, light blue, red, honey-colored, brown and black). Petrographically, they consist of micro or crypto quartz . Also Chalcedon - spherulites occur. Many flints show fossilized root structures . Occasionally there are drusen in the flint stones , which are filled with small rock crystals .
