geography

origin

The Flitterbach rises at the southeast slope of the 583  m above sea level at the summit . NHN high Galgenberg not far from the outskirts of Neuenreuth , where it flows from a spring pond . Older descriptions name the Pechloh and Becherbächlein as spring brooks.

course

The Flitterbach constantly flows in an approximately south-easterly direction, first past the Thiersheim market on the right slope, then through its village Stemmas and passes the also associated desert Mittelmühle at the mouth of the Thiersbach and Karlmühle at the Kothigenbibersbacher Bach. In the urban area of Arzberg , to which he then changes, it flows through the small village of Sandmühle and then past the Flittermühle and is spanned by the viaduct of the federal road 303 shortly before entering the closed settlement area of Arzberg between Oberer and Unterer Rohrschmiedmühle . Immediately afterwards, the tributary of the same name flows from the nearby village of Röthenbach in the west. After the Flitterbach has flowed through the city center of Arzberg, it flows into the settlement area between the Wiesenmühle and the river bridge of Bahnhofstrasse from the left into the Röslau, which flows there approximately east-northeast.

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Flitterbach covers 25.6 km² in the Fichtelgebirge . Its highest point is on the northeast corner at 652  m above sea level. NHN high secondary summit basalt height of the Steinberg . To the east of the watershed from the mouth up to this is the catchment area of the downstream Röslau. Beyond the northern watershed and from there to the northwestern tip, the Eger continues the drain on the other side; The greatest direct competitors on this section are the Dangesbach, which flows into the Kaiserhammer via a Mühlkanal, and the Bibersbach in the far northwest . Behind the southwestern catchment area border , the Leimatbach flows in turn to Röslau, there above the Flitterbach.

history

Before the construction of a retention basin, the Flitterbach, the sole drainer of the Thiersheim basin, led for centuries in heavy rain in this area, in part devastating floods, to Arzberg, devastating entire streets. Some flood markings on the walls of older houses indicate water levels of up to 3 m above street level, while neighboring streets were hardly or not at all affected by the flood.
