Florian Mausbach

Florian Mausbach (born May 26, 1944 in Koblenz ) is a German city ​​planner . From 1995 to 2009 he was President of the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR).

Florian Mausbach studied architecture at the TU Braunschweig and urban planning with a focus on urban renewal at the TU Berlin . In the redevelopment area Kreuzberg he opened together with fellow students, the "Office for Urban Renewal and Social Work," which was directed at so-called "demolition and reconstruction" and for the preservation of today under monument protection standing Bethanien began.

In Beijing, Mausbach then worked for almost two years until autumn 1977 as an editor and translator in the publishing house for foreign language literature. With wall newspapers he campaigned for the reformer Deng Xiaoping and coined the term " Gang of Four " as a term for the left-wing radicals around Mao Zedong's widow Jiang Qing . When he left China , he received a photo of Deng Xiaoping with his personal thanks.

Back in Germany, Mausbach initially worked in the urban redevelopment office of the city of Oberursel / Taunus , then until 1990 as an urban planner for the city of Frankfurt am Main , most recently as chief building director in the office for overall municipal development and urban planning. In this role, Mausbach developed ideas for a generation of high-rise buildings 150 to 250 meters high.

From 1990 to 1995 Mausbach was an alderman for planning and construction in the city of Bielefeld .

In 1995, Mausbach was appointed President of the Federal Building Directorate by the then Federal Building Minister Klaus Töpfer . From 1998 to 2009 Mausbach was President of the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR), which was merged from the Federal Research Institute for Regional Studies and Regional Planning and the Federal Building Directorate.

Through his involvement in numerous urban development and architectural realization competitions and as the client of the government move, Mausbach played a decisive role in the building culture of the federal capital Berlin. In 2010, together with the architecture firm Kleihues + Kleihues , he propagated an urban reorganization of Berlin's City West with high-rise development.

The preservation of a section of the government bunker of the federal government in Ahrweiler as a Cold War museum goes back to Mausbach's initiative.

Mausbach is one of the initiators of the Berlin Freedom and Unity Monument .

As chairman of the Verein Architekturpreis eV, Florian Mausbach founded a German-Polish initiative to rebuild Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Villa Wolf in Gubin .

In 2017, Florian Mausbach published an appeal with over 70 prominent signatories for the erection of a memorial in Berlin for the victims of the German occupation of Poland from 1939 to 1945.

Private

Florian Mausbach is married to the artist Ursula Mausbach and has two children. He lives in Berlin.

  • 2008 National Prize of the German National Foundation for civic engagement for the construction of a freedom and unity monument in Berlin.
