Florian A. Scheck (born November 20, 1936 in Berlin ) is a German physicist.

Live and act

Florian Scheck was born as the son of the flautist Gustav Scheck and Ernestine Scheck, nee. Nitschke, born. He graduated from school with the French Baccalauréat and the German Abitur . From 1956 he studied physics at the University of Freiburg , where he obtained his diploma in 1962 and in 1964 in theoretical physics as a Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate . He was then a visiting scientist at the Weizmann Institute for Science in Rechovot , Israel , until 1966 , and a research assistant at the University of Heidelberg from 1967 to 1968 , where he completed his habilitation in 1968 . After a two-year stay at CERN in Geneva and his rehabilitation at ETH Zurich , he was head of the theory group at the Swiss Institute for Nuclear Research (later merged with the Paul Scherrer Institute) and lecturer at ETH Zurich (1975 adjunct professor) from 1970 to 1976 . From 1976 until his retirement in 2005 he was full professor for theoretical physics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

Scheck's field of work is theoretical elementary particle physics . In particular, he deals with gauge theory , electroweak interaction , the determination of the elements of the CKM matrix , the non-relativistic quark model , weak and electromagnetic interactions of leptons , electromagnetic corrections to processes of strong and weak interaction , muon physics , neutrino mass and mixing .

Scheck is a member of the German Physical Society (DPG). He is married and has a total of eight children, including from previous marriages.
