Florian Vischer

Florian Vischer (* 1919 ; † November 1, 2000 ) was a Swiss architect . Vischer's style is seen in the tradition of classical modernism in architecture.

Life

Vischer studied architecture at the ETH Zurich from 1939 to 1944 and then interned in various Scandinavian architectural offices, including the offices of Ivar Tengbom in Stockholm and Alvar Aalto in Finland . After the end of the Second World War he planned a city in England together with Berthold Lubetkin and spent a year at Cornell University in the USA.

After his return in 1951, he founded an architecture office in Basel with Georges Weber. In 1956 he designed the Luzernerring retirement home, the first retirement home in Basel. This was followed by other buildings for church purposes and residential construction, buildings for the University of Basel and the cantonal hospital . At Expo 64 he designed the “Les échanges” (goods and values) area. Vischer is also responsible for the design of the striking tripod construction of the St. Chrischona TV tower in Bettingen .

At the end of 1989, Vischer and his partner withdrew from the jointly operated architecture office. Vischer was a member of the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects .
