successor New Brutale 800

The Brutale 800 is a naked bike from the Italian manufacturer MV Agusta .

After MV Agusta installed the three-cylinder engine of the F3 in an undisguised motorcycle in 2012 with the Brutale 675 and thus created a direct competitor to the Triumph Street Triple , the motorcycle manufacturer also presented the Brutale 800 for the 2013 model year. However, this model does not replace the 675, but closes the gap to Brutale 1090 . The main focus in the further development was an increased torque at a lower speed .

Like the smaller model, the 800 has a "ride-by-wire" system, a drive-by-wire concept that is tailored to motorcycles and is used to control the motor. An eight-stage traction control, a single-arm rear axle swing arm and an upside-down front fork are also installed. An automatic gearshift is available as an option, which speeds up gear changes, but cannot be compared with an automatic transmission . At EICMA 2013, MV Agusta presented other motorcycles based on the Brutale 800, such as the Rivale 800 and the Brutale 800 Dragster. The technical data of these motorcycles differ only marginally from the Brutale, but they stand out from the design. The rival is geared towards supermoto machines, while the dragster is trimmed for street fighters . MV Agusta markets the Brutale 800 as "the most versatile roadster ".

Further model variants were presented for the 2015 model year. On the one hand, the 800 RR was presented, which has 103 kW at 13,100 rpm as well as a modified fork and a modified injection system. On the other hand, the Turismo Veloce and the Stradale, with which MV Agusta enters the touring and touring motorcycles market. Both variants have more suspension travel, a modified handlebar, handlebar cover (Tourismo) or windshield (Stradale) and, depending on the variant, also side cases. In addition, the rear was designed to cope with the higher loads caused by suitcases or pillion passengers. In the Stradale, the power was reduced to 84.5 kW, the torque was slightly reduced to 78 Nm. The Lusso version of the Veloce has an electronically controlled chassis.

drive

A special feature of the transversely installed three-cylinder in-line engine is a counter-rotating crankshaft , ie the shaft rotates against the direction of travel, which makes the motorcycle more agile. With ride-by-wire, the throttle valves are not controlled mechanically, but electronically via servo motors. In this way, the response of the engine can be adapted for different driving conditions. The driver can choose between four different settings, one of which is freely programmable. Together with the eight-stage traction control, the system ensures better control of the available power.

landing gear

The Brutale 800 is equipped with an upside-down fork and a hydraulically adapted shock absorber. The fork with a leg diameter of 43 mm and a spring deflection of 125 mm can be adjusted in compression, tension and spring preload. The rear central spring strut offers 119 mm of spring travel, also adjustable in compression, tension and spring preload. The single-sided swing arm facilitates the installation and removal of the rear wheel and the tensioning of the chain. The brakes from the manufacturer Brembo are tailored to the performance of the motorcycle. An anti-lock braking system has been installed as standard since model year 2014.

Reviews

The design and the unusually high quality equipment in this vehicle class are praised in the trade press. Only the somewhat delayed response of the engine electronics was criticized in the first model years. These problems have been resolved in the 2015 model year.
