The Florin AG , based in Muttenz is a Swiss manufacturer of fatty substances . The company uses oilseeds to produce various edible oils , edible fats and margarines as well as vegetable residues that are processed as animal feed .
As the largest manufacturer of fatty substances in Switzerland, Florin supplies restaurants , bakery manufacturers , the food , pharmaceutical and chemical industries , retailers and animal feed manufacturers, among others . The company employs around 135 people and generates annual sales of around 200 million Swiss francs.
history
The family company, now in its third generation, was founded in 1930 in Märwil in Thurgau by Laurenz Florin as a feed mill. In 1935, Florin started producing linseed oil . In 1946, Florin moved its company headquarters to Muttenz. The reason for the move to the Rhine was the more convenient connection to the international seed trade in Rotterdam .
In the mid-1950s, Florin expanded its production facilities and began producing coconut oil and soybean oil . In the following decades, the refinery and production capacities, the storage and the filling plants as well as research and development were continuously expanded.
