The Flottmann-Werke AG was a German mechanical engineering - companies based in Herne . It was an important mining supplier.

history

The company's founder was Friedrich Heinrich Flottmann (1844–1899), who acquired an existing brass foundry and metal turning shop in Bochum in 1872 and continued it under the company of Metallgießerei H. Flottmann . After his death, his widow Emilie Flottmann (1852–1933) continued the company. The eldest son Otto Heinrich Flottmann (1875–1944) received the Reichs patent in 1904 for the "pneumatic hammer drill with ball control and automatic implementation", which among other things revolutionized the Ruhr mining industry. Otto Heinrich Flottmann relocated the factory to Herne due to the lack of expansion possibilities at the original location.

In 1957, when the coal crisis began, the company ran into persistent economic difficulties. In 1983 the main location was relocated to Baukauer Straße in Herne. The Flottmann-Hallen emerged from the old factory in 1986 as a cultural center . In 1988 took place fusion with Secair and farmers to Ecoair under the umbrella of MAN . The sale in 1994 to the Ingersoll Rand Company led to the abandonment of the Herne production site.
