Floyd Heard

Floyd Heard ( Floyd Wayne Heard ; born March 24, 1966 in West Point , Mississippi ) is a former American sprinter .

Career

In 1986 he set a world record for the year in the 200-meter run with 20.12 seconds . A year later he won gold over the same distance at the Pan American Games and was sixth at the World Athletics Championships in Rome . In 1989 he won his second national title in the 200 m after 1986. At the 1991 World Cup in Tokyo, he was eliminated in the semifinals.

On April 17, 1994, he set the current world record of 1: 18.68 minutes in the 4 x 200 meter relay race in Walnut together with Michael Marsh , Leroy Burrell and Carl Lewis .

In 2000, Heard became the oldest US sprinter to date to qualify for the Olympic Games. In June of this year he was convicted of doping and given a warning. Shortly thereafter, he reached the semifinals at the Olympic Games in Sydney .

Floyd Heard is 1.78 m tall and weighed 71 kg during his playing days. He graduated from Texas A&M University and later started for the Santa Monica Track Club .
