West Point is a city in Clay County in the US state of Mississippi and the county seat of Clay County. West Point is about 220 kilometers northeast of the state capital Jackson , near Mississippi's eastern border with the neighboring state of Alabama .
West Point is part of the Golden Triangle ( Golden Triangle ) composed of Columbus , Starkville is and West Point.
At the 2010 census , West Point had 11,307 residents and the number is down. In 2014 there were 11,093 inhabitants, of which about 61% were black and about 37% were white. Overall, West Point's population decreased by around 8.7% between 2000 and 2014. The United States Census Bureau estimated the population in 2016 to be 10,880. In terms of population, West Point is the largest city in Lowndes County (2010) and the thirty-eighth largest in Mississippi. 78% of the population lives in urban areas. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of West Point covers an area of approximately 54.6 km², of which approximately 53.9 km² is land and 0.7 km² (1.3%) is water.
