The Kaunas Airport ( lit. Kauno oro uostas ) is a center of Lithuania situated airport near the city of Kaunas in Karmėlava . As a branch it belongs to the state enterprise VĮ Lietuvos oro uostai . Until July 1, 2014, the airport was an independent company (valstybės įmonė "Kauno aerouostas").
history
Flight operations were moved here from Aleksotas Airport in 1988 . A modern terminal was opened in 2008. The airport has been an important link back home , especially for the large Lithuanian immigrant community in Great Britain and Ireland since joining the EU . It has the longest runway in Lithuania and modern guidance systems.

Airlines and Destinations
Ryanair is the main user of the airport and flies to various European destinations. Up until their bankruptcy in 2005, Kaunas was Air Lithuania's home airport .
