The Tagbilaran Airport , on Filipino "Paliparan ng Tagbilaran" to Cebuano "Tugpahanan sa Tagbilaran" was until November 2018, the only airport on the island of Bohol and is within the urban area of Tagbilaran .
Since the Tagbilaran Airport reached its capacity limit and also only has a relatively short runway that cannot be used by large aircraft, but due to the inner-city location no further expansion was possible, there were plans since the beginning of the 2000s for the construction of an airport on the island of Panglao , around 20 kilometers from the previous airport. According to the original plans, this new airport should start operating in 2010, but there were several delays. On November 27, 2018, Bohol-Panglao International Airport was officially opened by President Rodrigo Duterte . The old airport in Tagbilaran had ceased operations 12 hours earlier.
