The airport Tortolì-Arbatax ( Italian Aeroporto di Tortolì-Arbatax ) is located on the east coast of Sardinia , 2 km east of Tortolì and 2 km west of the port of Arbatax .
Infrastructure
The airfield has a 1450 meter long asphalt runway that runs from northwest to southeast (12/30). There are no taxiways running parallel to the runway. In the far north-west, at landing threshold 12, there is a small apron with a dispatch building and a parking lot. The landing threshold of runway 30 is only a few meters away from the beach, which landing aircraft fly over at a height of a few meters. For this reason, Tortolì-Arbatax is often compared to Princess Juliana Airport on the Caribbean island of St. Martin , where similarly spectacular approaches can be seen.
history
In the 1960s, an entrepreneur built the airfield with a 1190 m long grass runway, which was paved in 1975. With the construction of a small terminal, the seasonal charter traffic began , which shaped the airfield until 2010. There were numerous connections to northern Italy and some European countries , especially in the summer months . Various regional airlines flew to the airfield with aircraft such as the BAe 146 , De Havilland DHC-8 -400, Dornier Do 328 or the ATR 72 . In 2010 the runway was extended to 1,450 m and the terminal was modernized. Since 2011 there has been no flight operation in Tortolì-Arbatax. A reactivation is planned.
