The Trient-Mattarello airport ( it: Aeroporto di Trento-Mattarello “Gianni Caproni” ) is located in the Italian Alps , about five kilometers south of the city center of Trento and about one kilometer north of the village of Mattarello on the east bank of the Adige . The airfield is named after the aviation pioneer Giovanni Battista Caproni .

Infrastructure and use

The airfield, located in the Adige Valley directly on the Brennerstaatsstrasse , has a runway that is almost a kilometer long and runs in a north-south direction . On the main apron there is a small terminal building for general aviation and the Museo dell'aeronautica Gianni Caproni .

The autonomous province of Trento operates the airport through the company Aeroporto Caproni SpA , which also has a flying school at the airport . Other small businesses provide various services on site by light aircraft and helicopters , in particular air taxi services and the transportation of goods to inaccessible mountain areas. Several provincial rescue helicopters are stationed at the airfield .

history

The Trient-Mattarello airfield replaced the old Trient-Gardolo airfield in the 1970s .
