information Multiplayer online game with cartoon-like graphics

Fly for Fun ( Flyff for short ) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that was developed by the South Korean company Gala Lab (formerly Aeonsoft) and has been available since 2004 initially only in Korea and is now available worldwide. The Korean Ministry of Culture named Flyff as the best online game in June 2004. Fly for Fun is characterized, among other things, by its "comic-like graphics". Flyff is very popular in Asia and the installation package for the game is also one of the most popular game downloads in the West.

An essential game element that was first implemented in Flyff in an MMORPG are various flying devices such as brooms or flight surfboards, which players from level 20 can purchase and use. These enable faster and safer movement through the game world.

The game software (the so-called client) and the connection to the game server on which the persistent game world is held is free ( free-to-play ). The game provider generates sales through the (online) sale of so-called items (cash shop) that a player can buy for his character. The objects of purchase can be roughly differentiated into, on the one hand, those of a purely aesthetic nature, such as clothing and jewelry for the play figure. This type of revenue generation through individualization can be found e.g. B. also in Second Life . Other purchase items such as potions influence the character's attributes and offer a tactical advantage in the game, for example through higher combat strength.

Classes

The classes in Flyff are called "Jobs". Each player starts with the class "Vagrant". When he reaches the 15th level he can or must, since he no longer receives experience points, by accepting a quest for another class such as B. change the "Magician" (magician). From level 60 he can again choose one of two subclasses of his "job" through a quest (in the case of the magician this would be either the "psykeeper" or the "elementor"):

  • Vagrant (first class of the game, hand-to-hand combat)
    • Mercenary (melee class)
      • Knight (has high defense and uses one or two handed weapons)
        • Templar (New v16 class after the Knight)
      • Blade (fast and very strong, uses two weapons but low defense)
        • Slayer (New v16 class after the Blade)
    • Magician (Mage )
      • Psykeeper (weakens opponents, e.g. by paralyzing spells followed by ranged attacks)
        • Mentalist (New v16 class after the Psykeeper)
      • Elementor (attacks with various element spells)
        • Arcanist (New v16 class after the Elementor)
    • Assist (melee and support class)
      • Billposter (attacks one or more opponents with the so-called "knuckle")
        • Force Master (New v16 class according to the bill poster)
      • Ringmaster (supports other players with buffs (buffs) and heals them)
        • Seraph (New v16 class after the Ringmaster)
    • Acrobat (ranged class)
      • Jester (uses yo- yos to attack or the bowjester uses the bow)
        • Harlequin (New v16 class after the Jester)
      • Ranger (attacks multiple opponents with the help of a bow )
        • Crackshooter (New v16 class after the Ranger)

The use of weapons can, however, vary within certain limits. Knights can fight with shields and one-handed weapons, for example, while ringmasters can also use "Knuckles". The Bowjester is also a popular combination , as in this combination the relatively high chance of a critical hit of the Jester is used due to the stronger bow compared to the Yo-Yo.

Level, stat and skill system

The experience point system in Fly for Fun corresponds to the standards known from many other MMORPGs. This means that the character gets experience points for defeating a monster, depending on the level of the monster and his own character. When the character has accumulated a certain amount of experience points, he will advance to the next level . The number of points required increases from level to level.

The characters have three status values that are crucial for combat:

Abbreviation property description
HP (Health Points) Sinks every time an enemy hits and can be replenished with food or special pills, as well as by waiting outside of combat. If they drop to zero, the player dies and is either resuscitated at the so-called "Loadlight", uses a protective role and is resuscitated on the spot without loss of experience or an assist class uses the skill "Resurection", which also leads to a resuscitation leads.
MP (Mana Points (Magic Points) - Mana Points (Magic Points)) Serve as resources for spells. They can be renewed with so-called refreshers or by waiting. They are consumed in varying amounts during magical attacks. The amount of max. Mps increases with Int or through appropriate bonuses.
FP (Fight Points) Are required by all skills (skills) that are not considered spells. They can be renewed with so-called vital drinks or by waiting. Their maximum value increases with the Sta or with corresponding bonuses.

By reaching a new level, the player's character receives two (later also three) so-called "stat points" with which he can improve his attributes. There are four attributes in Flyff:

Abbreviation attribute description
STR Strength Strength, affects the character's standard damage (except from wands).
STA Stamina Endurance, affects the max. Combat points, life points and their recovery rate as well as the defense value (Def) and the HP regeneration (HP reg.) Of the character.
DEX Dexterity Dexterity, influences the dodge rate, attack speed, accuracy and chance of a critical hit of the player. It also increases the bow's damage.
INT Intelligence Intelligence, increases the max. Mana, the strength and defense of spells and the duration of the support spells ("buffs").

Each class is based on different attributes. So need z. B. Mercenaries a high strength value and Magicians a high intelligence. Wrong “equipping” has a significant impact on the character's fighting strength. If you have "made your own way", you have the option of buying a "Restat" in the cash shop for real money. This will reset all stats to the basic value of 15, so that the stat points already received can be redistributed. Nevertheless, this useful role can also be obtained from other players against the in-game currency Penya.

Each class also has so-called “skills”, special abilities that can be used in combat. Each class receives a different number of skill points when it has reached a new level. These points can be distributed over spells or particularly strong attacks. The selection and correct use of skills have a significant impact on combat. When you change your first job, you are given a "reskill" role. When you use these, all previously assigned skill points are deleted and credited back to you, so you can redistribute them.

To fly

From the 20th level the character can use aircraft with different properties. The advantage for the player is a significantly increased speed of movement (up to 286 km / h). In addition, the player can then get to other islands more easily. The flying devices include "brooms" (brooms) and "boards" (a mixture of skate and surfboard). These are available to everyone to buy from in-game retailers. Particularly fast or original aircraft can be obtained in the cash shop (for real money) or through special events.

You can also fight flying monsters in the air by clicking on an opponent several times. However, no skills can be used. By defeating a flying monster, the player receives flight experience points that increase the flight level. An increased flight level, however, has much less of an impact than an increased player level. Only the damage you inflict on monsters in the air is minimally increased. The flight speed and the speed of boarding the aircraft are not increased, although this rumor is very persistent.

Aircraft

There are several aircraft that the player can choose between. There are either 4 types of brooms or boards available to the player, which differ in price, appearance and flight speed.

But there are also so-called cash-shop aircraft such as a hoverbike, which have a higher speed than the others. Thanks to the "New Generation Upgrade" there are now wings in the cash shop. They are available in different colors, sizes and patterns.

The type of aircraft has nothing to do with the flight level, i.e. H. you can also have the fastest board or the fastest broom with flight level 1. In the meantime, however, the flight level has been abolished.

Game world

The world of Flyff consists of several islands that can be reached by flight or by blinking. Each island has a dungeon with particularly strong opponents.

Items offered and checkout

There are so-called "CS pets" that accompany the character or are stored in the inventory. Pets have the appearance of strong monsters with significantly reduced height or other beings (e.g. dogs and cobras). These pets automatically collect all items dropped by defeated monsters. There is also another type of pet that gives the player status points (these are called "Buff-Pet"). However, these are not available in the so-called cash shop, but must be generated in the game itself.

Upgrade system

There are several ways to improve items in the game. Oricalkums are needed to improve weapons and armor. Weapons can also be upgraded with element cards. When using these weapons, they do more damage to certain opponents, lower the chance to hit or lower the damage. This depends on the element of the cards as well as the element of the monsters.

Armor upgrades rarely give defense value bonuses. Another way to upgrade your equipment is through piercing. A Moonstone, the "Scroll of GProtect" protection item from the cash shop and a slot card are required for piercing. The "Scroll of GProtect" does not necessarily have to be used, it only guarantees 100% security that the object will not be destroyed when piercing, which can be useful with expensive weapons or weapons that have already been improved several times. Jewelry is made more efficient with moonstones.

When upgrading with Oricalkums, Moonstones and Element cards, the guarantee is not 100% except for +3, but the weapons cannot be destroyed even if they fail. From then on the "Scroll of SProtect" from the cash shop is required. Only when piercing you need the above-mentioned from the beginning. "Scrolls".

Pets

From version 9 (act 1) monsters leave eggs from which pets hatch. In order for an egg to hatch, a quest must first be accepted from a pet tamer (on all islands). Then you can feed the pet with the help of pet food (pet food can be made from quest items at a pet tamer). This gives them exp points, which allows them to level up after a while. There are a total of seven different pets. In contrast to the pets that can be bought in the cash shop, these do not collect any items, but give the player so-called "status points". These are strength (STR), stamina (STA), intelligence (INT), accuracy or speed (DEX), defense (DEF) or more life points (HP) or a higher attack strength (ATK). Since Act III it is also possible to "wake up" the pets and add up to three negative or positive properties to them.

PvP (PK) system

PvP (Player vs Player) From version 12 (Act 2), PvP battles are possible everywhere. To do this you have to challenge a player to a fight, but he can also refuse. If a player wins in a fight, he receives fame points that add a fight title to the player name in certain gradations. To prevent abuse, a fight is only possible from player level 15 (after the 1st job change) and only with up to 30 level difference between the two players.

PVP (PK) -Arena From version 11 (Act II) there is a PVP-Arena. There everyone can fight against everyone without losing experience points in the event of a defeat. You can reach them via an NPC that is in every city. Since there is only one arena for all cities together, a visit only makes sense at a high level. You can only enter the arena after the first job change, at level 15. This arena is a PK area, which means that when entering the ring you can be attacked without PVP requests.

Guild Siege System It is possible for several guilds to meet to compete against each other in combat. All guild members can participate, but this is not mandatory. However, the fights are only ever fought between two guild members. The point here is to select the best players in the guild and let them compete against each other. For a win against an opposing guild member the winner receives two points, for a win against a so-called Defender three points and for a win against a guild leader four points. At the end of the war, the points of all players in a guild are added up and the winner is indicated by the fact that all guild members wear a crown in front of the guild name. The player who has scored the most points receives a medal in front of his name. This player is also called MvP.

Collecting system

Since v11 (Act 2) you can find so-called collector fields in Flaris, Saint Morning and Darkon, which enable the player to extract raw materials from the earth. These raw materials can be processed into items at the Collecting Manager (NPC). To extract the raw materials, a collector (1,000,000 penya) and a battery (70,000 penya) are required, which can be purchased from the NPC. The battery contains energy for 1800 seconds of suction, the collector theoretically lasts forever. You can upgrade it with the so-called "Moonstones", which means that it sucks significantly faster. For example, vacuuming a raw material unit with an untreated collector takes a full 105 seconds (i.e. 1 min 45 s) when it is set to level 5, but only 30 seconds, i.e. 3.5 times faster. In addition, silver and gold batteries are offered in the cash shop, with which one can "suck" longer (10 or 20 days at a time).

Act III - Fight for Madrigal

On September 17, 2008 Act III - Fight for Madrigal was announced, which was released on October 14, 2008. The game has been expanded as described below, among other things. According to the official source, there is no new class. A full list of all changes can be found in the patch notes for Act 3 - Battle for Madrigal.

The abandoned tower In the six-story tower monsters in the level range 60 to 120 occur. Once a week eight guilds can take part in the battle for the tower, the winners get the right to rule over madrigal until the next battle. For example, you can raise taxes or lower fees.

The Lord System Players from level 60 can choose a ruler, the Lord. This must already be a Master or Hero and his term of office is at least two weeks. He has new equipment and skills that he can use for his own benefit or for the benefit of the community.

The Witch's Curse The Witch Rangda (level 70, 85, 100 or 115) appears in various places in Darkon. When she appears, the strongest players can defeat this witch together.

server

In the German Flyff, also called "dFlyff" or "Offi" (for official), there is a total of 1 server, which was named after a type of weapon in the game:

  1. Server Yggdrasil Channel 4 PK

There are also so-called private servers (P servers) which are operated by private individuals and can be used in roughly the same way as the official servers, with the difference that they have useful bonuses such as an increased experience rate. Usually the owners of the P-Server have also added extra items or special locations, which distinguishes the P-Server from the original, but also from other competitors. However, these servers are illegal because Gala-Net has the rights to the game idea and implementation.
