Systematics
Class : Agaricomycetes
Subclass : insecure position (incertae sedis)
Order : Russulales (Russulales)
Family : Deaf relatives (Russulaceae)
Genre : Russulas ( Russula )
Subsection : Russula subsect. Foetentinae
Scientific name
Russula subsect. Foetentinae
( Melzer & Zvára ) Singer

Russula subsect. Foetentinae is a sub-section from the genus Russula , within the section Ingratae stands.

features

The types of subsection are medium to large in size, with a hat diameter of 15 to 25 cm and have a strong, usually unpleasant odor. However, some species also have a pleasant smell of bitter almonds or aniseed. The brim of the hat is sharp-edged and grooved or furrowed with rough bumps. The stem is firm but brittle and usually becomes hollow with age. The hat is often colored yellow-brown, which is typical for this subsection. But it can also be colored auburn or dirty brown. The hat skin is usually strongly gelled, which is why the hat skin is often sticky or slimy in wet weather.

Microscopic features

The spores are quite large for the genus, often larger than 10 µm, and they are often heavily ornamented. They are either conspicuously winged or covered with coarse thorny warts. Spindle-shaped or bottle-shaped dermatocystids in the cap skin are typical microscopic features. They do not stain or stain only weakly with sulfovanillin. Membrane pigments dominate the cap skin.

  • The type species is Russula foetens , the stink-deaf .

Systematics

Bon understands the sub-section Foetentinae to be the group around the stink-deaf ( Russula foetens ). Its subsection corresponds to that of the group Foetens at Romagnesi and the strip of the same name at Singer . Romagnesi Section and Singer's Foetentinae subsection correspond to Bon's Ingratae section and include the Pectinata subsection , the group around the Schärflicher Kamm-Täubling ( R. pectinata ). At Sarnari , the subsection Foetentinae also includes Bons Foetentinae and Pectinata but without the mild comb-deaf R. insignis , which he places in a separate subsection Subvelatae .

This classification is partly supported by molecular data, even if the data from different working groups still contradict one another. At least there are indications that the almond deafness ( Russula grata ) and the stink deafness form a sister group to the Camembert deafness ( R. amoenolens ), which is in the subsection Pectinata . Since Foetentinae and Pectinata also differ in their mycorrhizal anatomy, Bon's separation of the groups into two separate subsections seems justified.
