The Fontaine de Jarente was built in 1783 as a new district between the Rue de Turenne, the Rue de Sévigné, the Rue des Francs-Bourgeois and the Rue Saint on the site of the dissolved Sainte-Catherine-du-Val-des-Écoliers priory -Antoine was established. In addition to new streets, the Marché Sainte-Catherine was created on the Place du Marché-Sainte-Catherine. Since the fishmongers needed fresh water in the market, the Fontaine de Jarente was built.

description

The fountain, which is attached to a house at the end of Sackstrasse, was built according to plans by the architect Caron. The fountain house, on the narrow sides of which there are house entrances, is framed by two Doric pilasters on which a triangular gable rests. The tympanum shows a vase from which water flows and which is framed by roses. The fountain is crowned by a pyramid-like roof. Between the pilasters, made alternately from smooth and embossed stones, there is the water outlet below and above it a rectangular relief depicting a bundle of rods with oak leaves, framed by cornucopia and dolphins . The bronze water spout consists of a mascaron in the form of a satyr .
