Ford Romania

Ford Romania (formerly SC Automobile Craiova SA ) is an automobile manufacturer based in the Romanian city ​​of Craiova .

It was created when Ford took over Automobile Craiova (formerly Oltcit SA ) and Daewoo Automobile .

history

The first Ford automobiles were registered in Romania as early as 1911. From 1936 until the end of World War II, there was a Ford Romana factory in Bucharest, which was expropriated after the war. In 1966, the German Ford subsidiary tried unsuccessfully for a joint venture with the Romanian state.

In March 2008, acquired Ford with an investment in the amount of nearly 60 million  US dollars accounted for 72.4 percent. Since May 2009 Ford has even held a 95.63 percent stake in Automobile Craiova. When the company was taken over by Ford, around 3,900 people were employed in the plant; in 2011 there were already around 7,000 employees.

After the takeover by Ford, the Ford Transit Connect was mainly assembled in Craiova .

On May 10, 2012, Ford opened a new engine plant in Craiova, where the Ford EcoBoost engine with three cylinders and 1.0 liter displacement has been produced ever since . From 2012 to 2015, a total of more than 800,000 units of the engine will be manufactured in this plant.

Production of the Ford B-MAX started in Craiova in June 2012, and Ford planned to produce around 300,000 vehicles a year. The first near-series concept vehicle was presented to the global public in March 2011 at the Salon international de l'automobile de Genève . Production of the B-MAX was stopped at Automobile Craiova in September 2017 after a total of 280,000 units.

The Ford EcoSport has been built in Craiova since September 2017 .
