Forest Moor
Forest Moor (also: Forest Moor Y-Station , later: HMS Forest Moor , today: Forest Moor School ) was a military base of the armed forces of the United Kingdom . He was in Nidderdale in the English county of North Yorkshire about 12 km west of Harrogate .
history
During the Second World War , Forest Moor was an important radio listening point for the British secret service from 1943 . As in most of the other Y-stations , mainly national HRO shortwave receivers were used. After the war, the facility was used from 1960 under the name HMS Forest Moor the British Royal Navy was as a radio listening station shut down until November of 2003. Today the facility is known as the Forest Moor School and is a school for difficult-to-educate children (see also: Special Education ).
