Former Lives is the first solo album from singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard , frontman of Death Cab for Cutie .

It will be released on October 16th on the independent label Barsuk Records in the USA , as well as on October 17th in Europe via City Slang , in Japan on October 15th via Big Nothing Records and on October 12th via Spunk Records in Australia. However, it has been on the label's official YouTube channel and Soundcloud since October 9, 2012 .

Origin and style

The style is based on the albums of Death Cab for Cutie , which are also particularly influenced by the voice of Gibbard. Many of the songs were created over the years but never made it onto a Death Cab for Cutie album. It is by no means just discarded B-sides , but songs that musically did not fit on one of their albums or notes that have never been set to music until now. However, they did appear at the concerts every now and then. Except for a few songs, he recorded everything on his own. He met with producer Aaron Espinoza whenever he found the time so that over the months a full album was created. Accordingly, it does not follow a specific concept, but is a mix from the musical life of Ben Gibbard.
