Forsthaus Hohehahn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The forester's house Hohehahn (colloquially just Hohehahn ) is a district of Willen that belongs to Wittmund . About 10 people live here.

geography

Hohehahn is located between Jackstede and Angelsburg , since 1972 it has belonged to the town of Wittmund, three kilometers away. In terms of area, Hohehahn is the largest part of Willen. Hohehahn consists only of the Wittmund Forest (with the exception of the Hohehahn nature reserve, which is m above sea level ). This forest houses the former Wittmund-Hohehahn marine torpedo camp, which has been rededicated as a district nature reserve since 1994 and is affiliated with the district adult education center.

history

The area was inhabited by loggers as early as the 18th century. In the middle of the 19th century the "Alte Forsthaus Hohehahn" was founded and in 1842 it was incorporated into the rural community of Willen. In 1921 the forester's house Hohehahn had to cede the Hohehahn nature reserve to Tannenkamp . In 1978 the "New Forsthaus Hohehahn" was founded in the west, and the population has also been falling since that year. Today only ten residents live there, but there is still a lookout tower and a circular moor path in the “old forester's house”.

The community of Willen, to which the forester's house Hohenhahn belonged, was incorporated into Wittmund on August 16, 1972.

economy

Lumberjacks and timber traders work in the Wittmund Forest, and there is also a cash desk in the "Old Forestry House" that is only open on Sundays. Visiting the observation tower is chargeable and can only be paid there.

traffic

In the south, the B 210 runs from Emden to Wilhelmshaven .
