Frédéric Esther

Frédéric Esther (born June 8, 1972 in Meulan-en-Yvelines ) is a former French light middleweight boxer, European champion from 1998, bronze medalist at the 1999 World Cup and Olympic participant from 2000.

Career

The approximately 1.77 m large left-hand boom boxed only in the light middle weight (up to 71 kg). He was French champion in 1995, 1999 and 2000 and won the European championship in Minsk in May 1998 . He defeated Roman Aleksejew from Estonia, Tengis Jaoschwili from Georgia, Chris Bessey from England and Ercüment Arslan from Turkey.

In August 1999 he also won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Houston . After beating Károly Balzsay from Hungary and Hely Yanez from Venezuela, he lost in the semifinals to Marian Simion from Romania. He then started at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , where he moved into the quarterfinals by winning against Andrei Mishin from Russia and Fırat Karagöllü from Turkey. In the subsequent fight for a place in the semi-finals and thus secure winning a medal, he lost again to the Romanian Marian Simion.

He was also a participant in international tournaments and won the Acropolis Cup in Athens in 1997 , with victories against the Slovak Martin Červenka, the Danish Lars Pedersen, the Romanian Wasile Morowan, the Ukrainian Alexander Subrichin and the Estonian Roman Aleksejew.

After the Olympics, he began a short professional career with 16 fights, winning 14 times. In the fight for the French championship in 2004 against Jean-Paul Mendy , he suffered a point defeat and ended his boxing career.
