Fríðrikur Petersen
Fríðrikur Petersen [ ˈfɹʊiːɹikʊɹ ] actually Frederik Petersen (born April 22, 1853 in Saltnes / Faroe Islands ; † April 26, 1917 in Nes (Eysturoy) ) was a Faroese pastor and politician ( Sambandsflokkurin ).
Life
Fríðrikur is the son of Súsanna Fredrikka Óladóttir Hansen from Nes and Johannes Petersen from Klaksvík . He was with Sofie Amalie, geb. Wesenberg from Copenhagen married.
After graduating from high school in 1875, he studied theology and graduated as cand.theol in 1880 . from. First he was pastor on Sandoy (until 1885), then on Suðuroy (until 1900) and finally provost of the Faroe Islands with his seat in Nes on Eysturoy until his death . In 1892 he translated the Our Father into Faroese , which is considered the first modern translation into this language. His most famous songs include u. a. Tiðin rennur sum streymur i á (1892, set to music by Jógvan Waagstein ), Deyði hvar er broddur tin (1900) and the Faroese version of Silent Night, Holy Night (1891).
Petersen belonged to the Løgting from 1890 to 1891 and then from 1893 to 1917. From 1894 to 1902, 1906 to 1914 and 1915 to 1917 he was also a member of the Danish House of Lords in the Folketing , the Landsting . In 1906 Petersen co-founded the Faroe Islands ' first political party , the unionist Sambandsflokkurin , which campaigns for the Faroe Islands' imperial community with Denmark . At the same time he was the party chairman from the time it was founded until his death.
Honors
In 1907 he was knighted by the Danish Order of Dannebrog . The Fríðrikskirkjan (Friedrichskirche) from 1994 in Toftir is named after Fríðrikur Petersen. On May 19, 2008 Fríðrikur Petersen was honored with a stamp from Postverk Føroya .
