Oliver Johan Thomas Ludvig Effersøe (born May 20, 1863 in Tvøroyri ; died March 8, 1933 in Charlottenlund ) was a Faroese civil servant ( Sýslumaður ) and politician of the unionist Sambandsflokkurin .

education and profession

In 1882 Oliver Effersøe graduated as a lawyer ( cand.jur. ) From the University of Copenhagen . From 1883 to 1894 he worked as an authorized representative ( Sýslufulltrúi ) in his hometown Tvøroyri on the Faroese south island Suðuroy with his father, the local Sýslumaður. He was then from 1894 to 1920 himself Sýslumaður of Suðuroy. In addition, he managed the post office in Trongisvágur from 1883 to 1905 .

Oliver Effersøe was head of Froðba / Tvøroyri ( Froðbiar sókn ) parish from 1889 to 1905, member of the Løgting from 1889 to 1892, from 1900 to 1901 and from 1905 to 1931, member of the Folketing from 1906 to 1913 and a member of the Landsting from 1914 to 1914 1915, 1920 to 1928 and from 1929 to 1933.

In 1917 Effersøe succeeded Fríðrikur Petersen , the first party leader of the Sambandsflokkurin. Effersøe gave the chairmanship of the party to Andrass Samuelsen in 1924 . He was also chairman of the Løgting from 1924 to 1928 and from 1930 to 1932.

As a politician of the unionist Sambandsflokkurin, Effersøe was one of the most important political opponents of Jóannes Patursson . Effersøe brought Patursson a painful defeat in the 1906 Folketing election, which contributed significantly to the dissolution of the Løgting in June 1906.

Others

As a supporter of the abstinence movement , he headed the local association on Suðuroy. His older brother Rasmus was also editor-in-chief of the teetotaler newspaper Dúgvan for several years .

Oliver Effersøe is the son of Gudmund Effersøe (1827–1916), Sýslumaður on Suðuroy from 1851 to 1894, and his wife Kathrina Elisabeth Helena born. Müller (1824–1903) from Tórshavn . He was married to Susanne Astrid Effersøe, b. Svendsen (died 1902). The Faroese poet, politician and newspaper editor Rasmus Effersøe was his older brother. The Faroese teacher, politician and newspaper editor Oliver Petræus Effersøe was his uncle.

He was the son of the Icelandic immigrant Jón Guðmundsson Effersøe (1784–1866), who was originally from the island of Örfirisey near Reykjavík in Kollafjörður, and his wife Susanne Olesdatter (1797–1882), who came from Vestmanna. Gudmund himself was married to Kathrine Elisabeth Helena Müller (1824–1903). The couple had five children together.
