François Grangier de Lamothe

François Grangier de Lamothe (born November 22, 1757 in Riom , † April 22, 1822 in Chamalières ) was a French politician.

biography

His father, François Grangier, owner of the castle of Cordès , was the last lord of Cordès and Orcival in 1789. In year III (according to the French revolutionary calendar ) the retired dragoon captain was administrator of the Riom district.

1809 he became mayor ( Maire ) of Clermont-Ferrand ; In 1813 he was confirmed in his office and remained at the head of the city until his departure on September 12, 1815. He was appointed Départementrat ( French conseiller général ) of Puy-de-Dôme on the 24th Floréal in the year VIII and remained so until his death; In 1806, 1807 and 1814 he was President of the Department Council. On June 30, 1811, he was awarded the Legion of Honor.

He died on April 22, 1822 in the Château de Montjoly , which he owned and which now houses the mayor's office of Chamalières . In 1873 one of his daughters sold Cordès Castle to Félix Martha-Beker .

Clermont-Ferrand honors the memory of the former mayor and named a small square in the Saint-Alyre district after him.
