The Cordès Castle ( French Château de Cordès ) is 900 m high in the municipality of Orcival in the Puy-de-Dôme in the French region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It has been under monument protection as Monument historique since July 1926 .
history
In 1268 the castle at that time belonged to Wilhelm von Chalus ( French Guillaume de Chalus ). It remained in his family's possession for almost 400 years. In 1659 the plant was sold to Emmanuel d'Allègre. His son Yves d'Allègre , marquis de Tourzel , became Marshal of France in 1724 . During his reign, the buildings were renovated , expanded into a castle and given their current appearance. The gardens were designed by André Le Nôtre in 1695 . As the chief garden architect of Louis XIV , he designed the style of the French baroque garden .
Cordès Castle is the setting for the 1914 novel Le demon de midi by Paul Bourget .
architecture
The outer facade of the Sioulet side is decorated with machicolation.
Inside, you can admire a 16th century retable made of Carrara marble and a reclining statue of Yves II d ' Allègre ( Bayard's companion ).
The interior is made of stucco, painted wood, stone fireplaces and terracotta tiles.
The living room is decorated with plaster stucco from the 18th century.
The castle was declared a monument historique on November 20, 1933 . The declaration includes the chapel and the Louis XV lounge on the ground floor, as well as the main courtyard and the French park with all its arcades.
Park and garden
The park is in front of the castle. The park and gardens consist of rose gardens and arcades designed by Le Nôtre in 1695 .
The property, which includes the castle wall, gardens, entrance terrace, outside staircase, avenue, pond and kitchen garden, was included in the list of special gardens.
