history

Auzers Castle, romantic engraving from 1840

The rule over the castle and community of Auzers goes back to the year 1364. Bernard of Marlat bequeathed the property to his daughter Blanche, who married Blandin Bompart in 1402. The inheritance then passed to her son Blandin Bompar. He was master of Auzers and, from 1469, also of Cussac . Blandin Bompar served the Count of Boulogne and later his successor Gilbert de Chabannes, for whom he supervised the construction of the castle in Madic . He married Helen Fontages, with whom he had a daughter, Alix, who married two brothers in turn. In 1470 she married Antoine de Douhet, legal scholar and chancellor of Jean, Count of Boulogne and Auvergne. They had ten children together. In a second marriage, Alix married the brother of her late husband, Jacques de Douhet. She had three more children with him. Gabriel de Douhet d'Auzers, lord of Auzers and royal governor in Auvergne, inherited the property . He rebuilt the castle in its current form.
