On April 19, 2012, the castle and the associated park were classified as a monument historique .

description

The three-story main building has a U-shaped floor plan with the opening facing north. The numerous outbuildings (kitchen wing, stables) attached to the right and left side wings form a square to the south of the castle with partly slightly curved sides, creating a closed inner courtyard, which is entered through a stone gate on the south side. From the castle you can see a park in a northerly direction.

history

Villemont was originally a country castle of modest size. Only the interior was, befitting its status, pompous and stately. From 1557, the property was owned by the Veyny family for several generations. The series is led by Michel de Veyny (Treasurer of the Navy), who is not considered to be the first owner. Under his descendant Gilbert de Veyny, the castle was expanded after 1740. Conversions between 1748 and 1757 are documented. According to plans by Philibert de l'Orme , the closed inner courtyard and the west wing of the castle were built during this time. The west tower was demolished and rebuilt a few meters west of the old location. There is a drawing that shows the layout of the castle between 1745 and 1748 - i.e. before the expansion. The Atlas de Trudaine , which was published between 1745 and 1780, served as a template . The work ended in 1757 with the drainage of the marshland around the castle.

From 1865 to 1885 a restoration was carried out by the lord of the castle, LJ Maisniel.
