François Henri Theron

François Henri Theron ( July 18, 1891 - July 28, 1967 ) was a South African military and ambassador .

Life

François Henri Theron was drafted into the Enslin's Horse cavalry in October 1914. In 1915 he was under the orders of Smuts, in 1916 under the orders of General Botha. In 1917 he was in command of a company in the 2nd South African Infantry Battalion in France .

He graduated from Staff College Camberley and was appointed a staff officer at Defense Headquarters in 1921.

In 1933 he was a lieutenant colonel and commanding officer of the Military College in Roberts Heights ( Thaba Tshwane ). From 1937 to 1939 he was Quartermaster General of the Union Defense Force , in 1940 he was appointed Adjutant and later Brigadier General. In 1941 he was major general. He was the Union Defense Force Liaison Officer in the Middle East, then General Officer Commanding in the Middle East. He was inducted into the Order of the Bath as Companion and into the Order of the British Empire as Commander .

He was ambassador to the Italian government in Rome from October 1, 1945 to July 18, 1951 and was also accredited in Athens . He was then retired .
