François Isidore Wathiez

François Isidore Wathiez (born September 1, 1777 in Versailles , † February 24, 1856 ibid) was a French général de brigade of the cavalry .

Life

Enthusiastic about the ideals of the revolution , Wathiez volunteered for the army in July 1793. He became a supporter of Napoleon early on and volunteered for his Italian campaign in 1796 .

After several promotions, Wathiez joined Marshal Joachim Murat's staff and was under his leadership a. a. involved in the battle of Ulm (October 16/19, 1805), the battle of Austerlitz (December 2, 1805) and the battle of Jena and Auerstedt (October 14, 1806).

In the battle of Heilsberg on June 10, 1807 he acted as aide-de-camp of General Antoine Charles Louis de Lasalle ; Wathiez was badly wounded in these fighting. After his recovery he was transferred to Spain by Napoleon with the rank of Général de brigade . (→ Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula ). He fought with his troops in front of Medina de Rioseco (July 14, 1808) and at the siege of Burgos (September / October 1812).

Wathiez fought in the Battle of Wagram (July 5/6, 1809) and took part in Napoleon's Russian campaign in 1812 . He fought in the battle of Borodino (September 7, 1812) and the Berezina (November 26th / 18th, 1812).

In the Sixth Coalition War , Wathiez took part in the battles of Brienne (January 29, 1814), La Rothière (February 1, 1814) and Montmirail (February 11, 1814) under the leadership of Marshal Auguste Frédéric Louis Viesse de Marmont .

In 1837 he was appointed lieutenant-général des armées du Roi by King Louis-Philippe I , a well-paid supply post, but not a military rank.
