François Lamathe Dom Bédos de Celles de Salelles
Dom Bédos de Celles (* 24. January 1709 in Caux in Beziers ; † 25. November 1779 in Paris at the Abbey of Saint Denis; and François Dom Bedos de Celles or Dom Bedos called) was a French Benedictine , organ builder , Reviewer and writer who was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Bordeaux in 1759 and was admitted to the Paris Academy of Sciences in 1767 .
Life
Bédos de Celles, Dom François Lamathe (also called Dom Bédos for short), attended the Oratorian School in Pézenas and entered the Benedictine priory of Notre-Dame de la Daurade (Maurinian Congregation) in Toulouse in 1725 as a novice . There he was given the suffix "Dom" and in 1745 became Chapter Secretary of the Abbey of Sainte-Croix in Bordeaux . In 1748 he built a large organ with 38 registers for this abbey , which later went to the Sainte André Cathedral and returned to the abbey in 1998 as part of a much-noticed restoration. In 1759 Dom Bédos became a member of the Academy of Sciences in Bordeaux . In 1761/62 he made a large organ in St. Vincent. 1763 he led a trip to the Upper Swabian Weingarten , where he organ of Joseph Gabler visited, he later faithfully reproduced their description and illustration in his book.
On behalf of the Paris Academy of Sciences , of which he was a corresponding member since 1767, Dom Bédos wrote the fundamental work "L'Art du facteur d'orgues" (The Art of the Organ Builder) from 1766 to 1778 with excellent drawings and detailed descriptions . He wrote many organ reports, including an examination report on the new organ in the Saint-Martin basilica in Tours.
