François Le Goullon

François René Le Goullon (born October 1, 1757 in Metz , † August 10, 1839 in Weimar ) was a Franco-German cook and author of cookbooks .

Life

He was born in Metz as the son of an officer and innkeeper . He spent his youth in Kassel . There he met Duchess Anna Amalia von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach in 1777 , who hired him as master chef and mouth cook and took him to Weimar. There he lived u. a. On the arable wall no. 9. The “G” can still be seen here today in the listed portal. In 1787 he married Johanna Christiana Antonetta Ortelli. After Anna Amalia's death in 1809 he founded the "Hôtel de Saxe" (renamed " Sächsischer Hof " in 1870 ).

Johann W. Goethe and his wife Christiane mention the garden neighbors and restaurateurs several times in their letters. He supplied Goethe's household on Frauenplan for thirty years a. a. with truffled foie gras patties .

Le Goullon wrote several cookbooks that brought him fame far beyond Weimar's borders. In particular, the book The elegant table or the art of entertaining a shiny circle in a tasteful and decent way without great expense, which appeared in the Hoffmann bookshop in Weimar in 1809 , became particularly well known .
