Francesco Conti (cardinal)

Francesco Conti , also Francesco de 'Domicelli (* around 1470 in Rome , † June 29, 1521 ibid) from the old papal family Conti was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

He was the fifth of ten children of Jacopo Conti, lord of Carpineto and Roman nobleman, and his wife Elisabetta Carafa della Stadera. The four Popes Innocent III came from his family . , Gregory IX. , Alexander IV and Innocent XIII. as well as a number of other cardinals. He was a nephew of Cardinal Giovanni Conti . Francesco Conti studied law and had six illegitimate children.

On October 8, 1494, he was appointed Archbishop of Conza , but remained permanently absent and had the diocese run by vicars general .

Pope Leo X elevated him to cardinalate on July 1, 1517 , whereupon Conti was installed as cardinal priest of the titular church of San Vitale on July 6, 1517 . On September 11th of the same year he therefore renounced his diocese. From January 11, 1520 to January 7, 1521 he was chamberlain of the Holy College of Cardinals .

He died in his native city of Rome and was buried in his titular church, San Vitale .
