Francesco Gioia OFMCap (born July 21, 1938 in San Vito dei Normanni , Brindisi Province , Italy ) is the papal delegate of the Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua and president of the Peregrinatio ad Petri Sedem .

Life

At the age of almost 27, Francesco Gioia received the sacrament of ordination as Capuchins on June 29, 1965, i.e. on the solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul .

On 2 February 1990 Pope appointed him John Paul II. To the Archbishop of Camerino-San Severino Marche in Italy. On April 5, the same year he received by the Pope and Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re and Archbishop Justin Francis Rigali as consecrators the episcopal ordination . On January 9, 1993, he resigned from this office.

From July 8, 1996 to 2002 he was secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and People on the Move . In 2005 Gioia was also briefly Apostolic Administrator of the Papal Patriarchal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome , until he was replaced in 2005 by Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo . On January 23, 2013 he was appointed President of the Peregrinatio ad Petri Sedem .
