Francesco Maietta (born February 10, 1996 in Marcianise ) is an Italian boxer .

Career

Francesco Maietta started boxing in 2009 and became Italian schoolmaster in 2010. In 2011 and 2012 he won the Italian Junior Championships and started at the Junior European Championships 2012 in Bulgaria , where he was eliminated in the first fight.

In 2013 he became Italian youth champion and won a bronze medal in the lightweight at the 2013 European Youth Championships in the Netherlands . He also won the Danas Pozniakas international youth tournament in Lithuania in 2013 . In 2014 he took part in the European Youth Championships in Croatia and the World Youth Championships in Bulgaria, but retired before reaching the medal ranks.

From 2015 he boxed in the elite class. He took second place in the Finnish Gee Bee tournament and first place in the Spanish Boxam tournament. At the European Championships in Bulgaria in 2015 , he won a bronze bantamweight medal after being defeated in the semifinals by Michael Conlan . At the 2015 World Championships in Qatar, he lost in the first fight against Murodjon Ahmadaliyev .

In 2016 he won the Italian lightweight championships. In February 2017 he played his first fight in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) for Team Italia Thunder and defeated the British Jack Bateson 3-0. At the 2018 EU Championships in Spain, he won a bronze medal after losing to Calum French in the semi-final .
