Francis Chan (bishop)

Francis Chan (born July 25, 1913 in Singapore , † December 20, 1967 ) was a Singaporean clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Penang .

Life

Francis Chan received on 4 December 1939, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on February 25, 1955 as the first bishop of the diocese of Penang established on the same date . He received his episcopal ordination from the Internuntius in India , Archbishop Martin Lucas SVD , on August 28 of the same year. Co- consecrators were Victor Bazin MEP , Archbishop of Rangoon , and Louis-August Chorin MEP, Vicar Apostolic of Bangkok .

He participated in the first three sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.
